Change domain with Windows 7 "Bitlocker"
Hello Mrs, Mr Can I migrate a Windows 7 (with Bitlocker enabled) to a Windows 2003 domain to Windows 2008 R2 domain. - Should we disable Bitlocker on workstation before migration or can migrate Bitlocker's data Thank you for your help Best Regards

Hi, you must not disable Bitlocker if you changing domain (if you have in domain stored Bitlocker keys is it better to disable Bitlocker).

Yes, you would temporarily disable Bitlocker because of the changes to the boot information. Reference here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732774.aspx

Sorry, my question was not clear enough. - Windows 7 (Bitlocker active) and the Bitlocker keys are storing in Windows 2003 AD - 2e Domain (Windows 2008 R2) with trust relationship with W2003 domain Is it possible to change domain (Windows 2008) and save (or migrate) the Bitlocker keys in the new domain without disabling BitLocker ? Gerard, Yes, it is possible to change domains. Client machines, will still have bitlocker turned ON. AD Domain is used to save the recoveryinformation and TPM owner information only. This information is only used when your client machines goes in a BitLocker Recovery mode. You can move your machines from one domain to another domain, but for Bitlocker information to backup in AD in new domain, make sure GPO for bitlocker is turned ON. Regards, Manoj Sehgal
